Future Fire - Tarrus Riley is Powerful

We love Major Lazer and what there are doing especially as it showcases the talent of reggae and dancehall to a much wider audience.

This one is bound to be a hit and so we give it our "FUTURE FIRE" title as when we heard it WE LUV'D IT.  Remember this is where you heard it first memba we told ya. What make us happy is that its our own talented Mr "Singy Singy" Tarrus Riley getting the cross over potential with Ellie Goulding on this powerful ballad courtesy of Major Lazer.

A song that arranges the reggae crooner's smooth vocals with the ever dynamic vocals of British superstar Ellie Goulding. Yes thats Ellie Goulding of  "Burn and " I Need Your Love " fame

A lot of non reggae  listeners are going to open their eyes and ears to Tarrus after this song.
The song is the second single off their new album “Peace Is the Mission“,  which already has the monster hit "Lean On".

Dis ya tune has remix written all over it (up the tempo a notch to 100 BPMs and watch out)

Check out the second verse and that chorus di girls going to love this one

Trust me Tarrus  your  verse Shaaaaat ............maaaaad

This Tune is Big

Another big chune from  the collective called Major Lazer along with DJ Snake (from Turn down for What fame) what is there to not like in this tune. great beat, catchy lyrics and that chorus with the dancehall/bangra percussion... maaaad. The song features vocals by Danish recording artist MØ.  The single has already reached the top-ten in nineteen international charts, including number one in Australia and number four in the UK.

Its is classified as Moombahton, EDM and elctro pop  music.

We think it has a dancehall flavour and that is what we like about it. The video concept goes to India  but they cant disguise it we know its reggae. Dont guh round di ting.(its murder she wrote riddim)

MØ cant dance to save her life but she gets an A for effort

This music is maaaaaad flavourful..............dope and all dat

Do you realize she sings" focus ...fire a gun all we need some one to lean on" whatever that means. Interestingly a more radio friendly version of the song is played in Australia - with the lyrics 'fire a gun' replaced with 'into the sun'.

The Best Dancehall Crossover Song In Modern Times

Hey Mad Music Fans were back, like a case of bad flu we are hard to get rid of,  ready to bring you more madness and much more music. Lets make some Noise.

We start with a modern classic. It struck me when recently my brother who lives in the USA said he had never heard of this song. Whereas it was surprising at first I realized that not all of Jamaican music percolates to the rest of the world at the same time. That's why there are still people somewhere on our dear planet still doing the Bogle and Butterfly, you know yourselves;-)  and think that is the current dance in Jamaica. Also why some songs while old in Jamaica are only now becoming hits in other parts of the world to new audiences.

Which brings us to today's classic,  you should be familiar with this one "Watch Out for this -Bumaye" a classic fusion of dancehall and EDM produced by the ever creative collective called Major Laser and featuring the the crowning talents of Busy Signal. A breakout tune for Busy at the time who made a major re- emergence catapulted by the popularity of this tune.

With an ode to some classic old school fashion from the 90s check the Cross Colours and  featuring  dances  moves such as the Tatty and World Dance its a maaaad throwback to a totally modern sound.

From the streets of kingston to festivals worldwide this song electrifies dance floors every time it plays and has inspired numerous choreographed pieces, the reach and  universal appeal is evident in this maaaad piece one of the best ones from the Russian Fraules Dance group.

All  the moves here please take note are the more modern dance hall moves, so ladies you can pick up a move or two here

Another interesting fact is a lot of people who love and sing this song have no idea what the chorus means "Bumaye" it is not Jamaican patois it actually is taken from the great Mohamed Ali, made famous from the Rumble in the Jungle fight with Joe Frasier in Zaire in 1974, captured in the Will Smith bio flick Ali .

The people are actually shouting " Boma Ye Ali " which means Kill Him Ali, fast forward 40 years and put it to in a chorus with a banging beat and its recaptured in this classic dance hall hit ..maaaaad

Watch out for this to Mash Up di Place - Major Lazer finds the Maddest lyrics

Dancehall foreign producer of the year, Major Lazer continues their influence and musical ingenuity and dear we say crossover dominance with dancehall and reggae with the release of their latest video,Watch out for this (Bumaye)

In a throw back video to the early days of dance hall in the 1990s it features Busy Signal and dancers reviving the colourful, loud and fashion forward images of that era.

Kudos to the references to Bruk up
House of Leo dances
Tatty dance move
World Dance
Modelling Dance
Bogle Dance
Wacky Dip Dance
Barry G
Blond wigs (see Dancehall Queen Carlene)
Cross Colours

and how many other things can you identify from back in those days

Respect Major Lazer ... we like the horn riff in this one is Bumaye... whatever that means

NSFW

Our only comment is we wanted more of the riddim (it finished tooo soon) .........definitely a Maaaaad Moment

Snoop Lion, the next King of Reggae?

Well yes that what Snoop Lion's music is heading. We like many other people are looking forward to the debut next week March 15 of the movie "Reincarnated" the documentary on the transformation of Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion, reggae artist. We are sure the movie will do well based on Snoop's worldwide love and admiration.

However when we look at Snoop's latest video in support of the album we are still saying Snoop is still missing the reggae mark. The single called "Here comes the King" has a lot of scenes that raises doubt on the issue.

Snoop still singing and chanting in a pseudo Jamaican accent sounding like a bad Hollywood actor trying to catch the Jamaican accent.
Snoop  dressed in traditional rasta  fashion looking a little awkward
Snoop despite his rastafarian conversion having scantily clad women in the video (Fyah- Capelton voice)

Hot 97's Miss Info called this video part comical and part bizarre and we agree. We hope Snoop is not just playing a character. Will he still be Snoop Dogg sometimes and Snoop Lion sometimes..hmmmm.
The video is shot at the picturesque Trident Hotel in Portland, Jamaica

We hope that the album features some local producers like Don Corleone, Shane Brown or Gussie Clarke who we are sure can give Snoop some good direction.

Diplo and Major Lazer, the producers will add their own twist to the reggae/dancehall flavour, we spoke on Diplo's influence earlier Click on the link below:

Diplo's love affair with Jamaica continues

We suggest Snoop just drops the accent and buss out a free style on a bad dancehall beat. Snoop has maaad flow and if you have any doubts on the Snooooop Doggg just refresh your mind to this:

Snoop Lion, Reggae's New Hope......We dont think so

So here we go despite all the hype of Snoop Dogg changing his mane to Snoop Lion we said we would give it a chance and listen for the music. Cant throw any shade on Snoop who is a legend in the rap game and obviously has a lot of love for Bob Marley (cough, cough) but we love the attention and awareness he has brought to the reggae world based on his new found musical direction. So Snoop has also enlisted Major Lazer as his producer and although we are sure he will have more music to come we are not feeling the first single. We love Snoop's hip hop swagger and he was am monster in the West Coast 2012 BET Cyper (you tube it) but Snoooop, you do us all a disservice with this stuff.

We know Snoop loves the kids, but grass skirts, non recognizable dancing and nothing sounding remotely Jamaican (other than the ites green and gold) this cant pass as the authentic reggae.Truth be told I had the same reaction when I saw Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby I was like what the hell is the fool doing, this song is going nowhere, and that song went on to become the first full rap song to top the Billboard Charts plus  topping the Australian, Dutch, Irish, Italian and UK charts, so don't be surprised if you see this Snoop single on the charts (shaking our heads profusely) Enjoy
