Reggae on a Bike, Must Sell Off

Whats Up Mad Music Fam. Music continues to be a binding force in unique and interesting ways. Today we share a new musically inspiring feature I recently found "Music on a Bike". So a DJ created a concept of turntables on a bike where he rides through communities playing music and building a party vibe. Not an easy task to cue and mix while riding and navigating, but he seems to have it under control, most of the videos are Drum and Bass music. So as many of you know the British based genre of Drum and Bass or DnB was inspired and influenced by the original Jamaican dub and reggae which is characterized in the bass heavy sound.

Enter Dom Whiting a full time mechanic and part time DJ who decided to with the relaxation of some covid protocols to have a party on a bike. He said " I want to bring people together and enjoy a bit of music because we have been away  from each other for a long time." Nothing like music to bring people together

Its mad fascinating whether you are into the music or just the characters who are riding with him, of just the scenery of various towns throughout England.

If  Drum and Bass is not your "cup of  tea" just fast forward to time mark to 18:38  to hear Koffee's Toast drum n bass style to see the reggae influence.

Enjoy... Maaad

And just to show how a good vibe and music can grow organically look at where he started with the first video, just him and his so so self.

Hidden Reggae Gems that you may have missed back in time

Blessings and respect to all of the massive out there. Music we seh  all di way. so some much reggae music is released in Jamaica every week that even the top DJs miss something. So today we take a big jump back in time, going through the catalogue of CDs and found these 2 gems. Songs that didn't get their due back in the day but if you give them a listen, they were at the time well ahead and should have shine, shine bright like a diamond (in Rhi Rhi voice and melody)

Anyways listen and  acquaint yourself with these songs that should have been big  hits.

Firstly the British Knight Riddim, produced by Kareem Goodison of Orange Hill Records. This hip hop beat fused with dancehall had  reggae stars on the riddim including Aidonia, Anthony B and Jovi Rockwell. However the lead singe by Fantan Mojah is the stand out . when Fantan was the energetic rasta with the back back, long before the girls' skin out videos. Anyway check it out his characteristic chanting and his unique vocal styling that make the fusion sound work. mixed by 3 time Grammy Sound Engineer and recent JARIAH 2021 Honoree  Rorey Baker. the song is special.....Maaaad

Then we go back to our favourite Danish reggae singer Natasja, off her Album "Release" back in was another hip hope fusion with dancehall "Summercute" still has a vibe. Produced the multi talented Danish producer Pharfar, with Natasja sitting on the riddim like a lizard on a limb this one should have been  another world wide stunner ...Maad Music

Reggae Emotions are Strong On this One

It is a joy and a pleasure when new artists finally buss who have been in the game  developing their musical craft and finally get to enjoy well deserved attention.

With a beautifully shot video featuring Folly Great House in Portland we find the "hot new artists" Yaksta ( Bush Lawd) and Nation Boss on with the brand new message music for their collaboration "Emotions". The video storyline and visuals pays homage and is almost like a sequel to Nation Boss' Humans video.

Great costuming, Superb cinematography, the colours the movement ohh and the song shaaat quality music and a quality video , we like to see how Jamaican production companies (in this case always creative RD studios) is stepping up the game and placing reggae on the world stage  even more where it madly deserves to be.

This is a Mad Emotional Moment in Music..........Mi fi tell unuhh  this one badd no lie.

Reggaeton roots is built on Shabba Ranks

Whats up Mad Music People . We all Love Reggaetón with superstars like Daddy Yankee and J Balvin  but  do you know the true history to reggaetón.

Well jump back in the music time machine to 1990 when Shabba Ranks created the song "Dem Bow" a classic dancehall anthem taken from Shabba's 1991 album Just Reality. To this day, elements of the song's accompaniment track are found in over 80% of all reggaetón productions

The song and riddim produced by Bobby Digital inspired an instrumental in Puerto Ricoin the mid 90s  called "Dem Bow' which its distinct drum pater became characteristic of the sound of reggaetón

Steely & Clevie, creators of the Poco Man Jam riddim, are usually credited with the creation of dembow

Here is the reggaetón derivative, I am sure you here the similarity....maaaad

Humans are taking over Reggae Music

Whaa Gwann Mad Music Family, good music can't be stopped and  every time you think you have hit the pinnacle, a mad moment in music hits you again. Sooo this week an unusual occurrence, 2, yes count them 2 hot songs with the same title enjoying good rotation in the reggae universe.

First up Nation Boss' "Humans " a classic love lost tale with an engaging video shot in the cool Blue Mountains featuring a demure and quietly confident artist Nation Boss. Already creating a buzz in Jamaica this one is sweet and potent in its simplicity and sound.

Then strangely enough when researching this song I backed into this other song by another new comer with tremendous talent Yaksta. He is now getting well deserved attention for his inspirational song "Ambition" but also has a song out called also titled "Humans" with a well produced video telling the evil virtues of humans.

So which Humans are you in favour of #TeamNation or #TeamYaksta. either way Reggae is the winnner,,,,Maaaaaad

What is even madder is both artist have a combination together , no its not Humans, Humans ;-) but  "Emotions" look out for that one these two talents will continue to impress a sure sign that reggae is alive and well in Jamaica.

 Then there were more Humans

Did you Know Shabba Ranks did a cover of a Beatles' Song

Whats popping, my music family. We went back in time for this hardly known about gem. Everyone in reggae land knows the  original " Mr. Loverman" "The Emperor ", "A Mi Man" "Dutty Stintking Shabba Ranks" aka  Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon, arguably in the late 80 and early 90 the most popular Jamaican artist in the world.  Known for his hits "Mr. Loverman". "Housecall" with Maxi Priest, "Slow and Sexy" with Johnny Gill, "Respect", "Pirates Anthem", "Trailer Load A Girls", "Wicked inna Bed", "Caan Dun", and "Ting A Ling" and many more  hits.  He won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1992 for As Raw as Ever and in 1993 for X-tra Naked.[

Little known fact do you  know he did a cover version of a classic Beatles song "She's a Woman." Well almost he did a DJ  feature on the cover but thats qualifies as part of the cover ....it was music magic

The  song "She's a Woman" was recorded by Scritti Politti a British punk and pop band back in 1991 with featured guest vocals from Shabba Ranks, the song became a UK Top 20 single, song.

But lawwwd have mercy when  a remix version by dance collective Apollo 440  was  released the song really took off  Here is Shabba Mr Loverman on di track....maaaad.

If you want to here the original with more of Green Gartside's vocals pree this version, but we like Shabba vocals on the remix more

Christian Music never sounds this Devilishly Good

I know I know,  Christians and Devils  doesn't seem like a  good mix in music, but just give it a listen. I found this artist  who is mad talented and his beats and production are Str8 fire.

Raise your right hand if you ever heard the music of NF.

His name is Nathan Feurestein but performing  under his initials NF, he is a rapper with a purpose  with incredible word play, delivery and introspective lyrics  and his cadence on these beats will BLOW you away

No newcomer he has released five studio albums and won several several accolades, some of which include: the Gospel Music Association Dove Award for Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year (Therapy Session); and  a triple-platinum certified single in the United States which also charted internationally ("Let You Down").

Check out his latest Video Clouds" which speaks for itself,

No surprise his  idol is Eminem , apart from the obviously characteristic similarity, his melodies , cadence , delivery and metphors are just on point. I though I was watching Eminem 2.0.

The man badd...no lie ,possibly if he was in the secular world he would be a bigger star. but no shame in the game, talent is talent  If you like his style check out this other video

Dancehall Pop Clash, Who is taking notes from Who

Dancehall and what I like to call Dancehall Pop or cross over is mad competitive.especially in the female category.  I  recently made an observation with the new generation of superstars Nicki Minaj and Shensea and their latest releases, stricking similarities.

First Lets look at Niki Minaj's "Megatron",  a bouncy track infused with Danny Browne's produced "Filthy" riddim made famous by Mr. Vegas and his Heads High track.
Megaton is the first single for her soon to be released album, by her deifinition Megatron means "the baddest"and she  takes the opportunity especially in the last verse to tell you why sexually she has going on (maybe TMI) . Oh and by the way it features no surprise her fiance Kenneth Petty.  We like the crossover poential and the homage to old school dancehall but not so sure this one is a hit

Then lets look at Niki's whip and Shensea's whip jus for reference

Shensea just got signed to Interscope and the first single with her new label is "Blessed" with fellow label mate and hip hop superstar Tyga. Producced by Rvssian Jamaica wonder producer, lets jump in to her single and watch Blessed

Ok lets break it down, Niki's Chours Bratta brrrat,  Shensea Chorus  Raaata Rattata.  Both sporting high end sports cars. Both in tropical exotic locations Shnesea in Mobay, Niki in the studio but the sets are both tropical , choregography both Dancehall at its best, old school  school stylee

Niki famous in the early part of her career for teasing her bisexuality. Shensea obviously being provacative by having a controversial opening scene with a scantily clad womna lying in her bed.....hmmmm. My how the music has come along way a leading dancehall artist suggesting switching it up and still respected in the dancehall, let a male DJ try that....it not going to go the same way. Even more interesting with Rastarfari intro and outro of the video no one thought rasta support dem tings. Both videos have red neon lights sets and the lists goes on and on. So who is coping who and who wins this round......Mmaaaad.

Its a Happy Day in My Polos and My Damn Clarks - Hottest Dancehall Artists to Watch

Wha gwaaan Mad People

We still digging in di crates, searching the dancehall and combing di internet for the hottest artist a road who have the mad talent to Buss Big.

So today we share with you some of my favourites that you should also keep an eye and ear out for. Firstly "Hot Frass" aka Romaine Lindsay originally from St. Thomas (home of stars like  Popcaan and Morgan's Heritage). Frass is now based in the district of Hampton Court and building a musical energy Hot Frass hot right now .

He is riding high with the street classic Polo which features deejay Takeova. Strangely enough initially the song sounded like one person a deejay but it looks like Hot Frass and Takeova have the same tone and delivery on this one.

The man a big up Polo I hope Ralph Lauren cut the man a big cheque  for the free promo

Anyways Hot Frass now based with Claims records (the label that help buss Gully Bop)  has  the melody and style for future tings watch out for him

(Video is raw dancehall so u know how it goes)

Then another artist who I think has the right approach, still somewhat underground but finding main stream buzz with the worthy song "Its a Holiday" meet Halonai, a producer, mixer and a true talent in every sense of the word. He taught himself to play the piano and is equipped with all the skills to be a future force...maaaad

I like the delivery and bounce of this one, lyrics, riddim everything is wicked on di sone maaaaad

First check out this video clip in ths studio.......vibes tun up

Then here is the official video but to me something got lost in the mix, the tune bad no lie but something about the song in the first clip real and humbler more than the 2nd clip Check it out

ALL NIGHT LONG 35 Years Strong and the Jamaican Connection

Whaddup Whaddup Mad Peeps, its TGIF Time to Get Fresh Friday

I found this interesting mix of old and new. You all know Lionel Ritchie, lead singer of the Commodores (old school) and for the Millenial generation more popularly know as Nicole Ritchie's dad or that judge from American Idol (new school).

Well can you imagine his perennial hit song All Night Long is now 35 years old . Lets revist this claissic for a quick minute. Featuring a young Boogaloo Shrimp from Breakin.

Bet you did know that the title was inspired by a Jamaican, yes indeed my Uncle Dr Loyd Greig who is good friends with Lionel Ritchie.

Taken  from New York Post Five Surprising Facts about Richie's classic ‘All Night Long’

1. The title was inadvertently inspired by a Jamaican gynecologist.
“It was the first time I’ve ever written a song where I didn’t have a hook. It took me months to find one,” says Richie. “If the song is called ‘Easy,’ you write ‘easy’ first. Then you work from there. I wrote everything — ‘Well my friend, the time has come,’ ‘Fiesta, forever’ — and I still didn’t have a hook.”
After nearly three months of struggle, the singer had a eureka moment when dining with his friend Lloyd Greig, a Jamaican born physician. “I was leaving his house, and I said [in a Jamaican accent], ‘I’m going back to work all night long.’ Then I said, ‘Wait a minute. “All Night Long.” ’ He looked at me like I was nuts. Sometimes, by not thinking, you find exactly what you want.”

There you go Greigs are muses for musical greatness ;-)

But even more maaad cool is that British Producers, DVRX have sampled the chorus (time 2:00 in the orginal video ) and made it into a 2019 Dance Classic" Jambo Jumbo"

Enjoy this Jammin to the Wknd....MAAAAD

Ooooooh Noooo its the RAT!!!

How long has it been since you heard the saying Ooooooh no its the rat but here we are in 2019 saying Ooooooh Yes to Red Rat. Yes the 1990 superstar Wallace Wilson aka Red Rat like many other dancehall artists now calls Florida his home. Out of sight in Jamaica but very much in touch with Dancehall. Here we find him anchoring a wicked remix by British Grime Rapper Chipmunk aka Chip together with Steflon Don and Alkaline. The beat is as bouncy as the girls in the video.

A bit raunchy but in terms of flow and vibes its Up Up Up.

Check it out

Oh BTW Chipmunk aka Jahmaal Fyffe was born in Tottenham, England and is of Jamaican descent. He always goes back to his roots here is another hit shot in Jamaica with Mavado from 2011...Maaaaad

Hot Kup of Koffee

Manners and Respect to one and all, its Time for Get Fresh Friday (TGIF)

Some of you have already tuned into this bubbling star on what people call the New Reggae Roots Sound. Welcome Mikayla “Koffee” Simpson  a proud graduate of Ardene High School, which continues to bless us with a rich array of cultural and academic ambassadors (like Di Genius, Rvssian, and Alkaline to name a few)

Koffee, I cant believe how she captured this cool (I mean Hot Name) before anyone else. This rising superstar Koffee based on buzz of "Burning" and being nutured under the wings of other ragga soul stars Chronnixx and Protoje has recently signed to Columbia UK. At the tender age of 18 she has the whole Music world at her feet (about the same age Rhianna was signed with her debut single Pon Di Replay). We have HIGH hopes for Koffee, her insightful lyrics, down to earth styling and rapid fire delivery is reminiscent of the early 90s stars Papa San and Stitchie. Particulalry because of her UK label I expect her very shortly to be doing some BIG House and EDM mixes.

But for now she is keeping close to her roots, she bad we nah tell no lie she baaad or as we like to say she maaaad.

She just released this week her latest visuals for"Throne" which is a testament to her style .

Pree this:

This is her in the Studio for the 1st time just 2 years ago, times flies fast when hit u a hit.

Gospel and House a Truly Inspirational Song

Wahddup Mad peeps back in the place with music for your face.

Today lets go for some divine inspiration. Found this Mad Gem of Music which seamlessly blends a gospel chorus, giving praise and wortship with downright funky house music. The song is by Adelphi Music Factory called Javelin ( Calling Out Your Name). A new classic on the dance floor but still able to drive a glorifying tribute to the Saviour.

Adelphi Music Factory is a music collective out of the UK whose philosophy is The power of love will overcome the love of power.

The title of the song is based on the concept that the Factory, forges a ‘Javelin’; a gospel piano weapon filled with love. The sample is from the gospel classic It's Me Oh Lord by LaShun Pace.

We dare you to listen to this maaaad tune and not nod your head and tap your feet... go ahead turn it up and get down this a Massive Maaad Moment in Music memba we tell unhuu.

Maaad Bless!!!!

Dancehall in Japan ...it Nuh Normal!!!

Wha a Gwann Mad Music Peeps

Today we dive into the archive to give you a classic Mad Moment in Music. Recorded almost 9 years ago when Gully Creeper and Ova Di Wall were the hot dances looong before people were flairing. Elephant Man was di man with the dances like how Ding Dong control the dancing scene now

Welcome to the love affair Japan has with Dancehall Culture. Straight out of streets of Kingston to the clubs of Tokyo welcome to "Tokyo Reggae Girls", yes the reggae dancehall culture finds itself sometimes to the unlikeliest places but imitation is the highest form of flattery and nowhere is this truer than in Japan where either watching countless dancehall videos or even better  having visited Jamaica  for a few weeks to soak in the latest dances our disciples return to Japan to show off their talents.

Check out this feature on how popular reggae music has become in Tokyo. This is really maaaad as I would love to understand why of all the countries in the world that Japan has adopted Jamaican music and culture, I mean why not Poland or Australia.

Anyone know the history of reggae in Japan that could explain this?

Anyway you pree it, it must be the Maaaahhd power of the music. I like how the dance a shot at 3:00am like in Jamaica.

Reggaeton Runs the World

Well with DJ Khaled returning to Jamaica and Drake touching down for Unruly concert this weekend, Jamaica continues to be the home of Dancehall and Reggae vibes worldwide that the for which the world's top Pop and Hip Hop artists make aa pilgrimage for influnce and inspiration.

But hold on wait a minute thats not the biggest music in the world right now, would you have guessed "Reggaeton". Reggaeton a music style which originated in Puerto Rico during the late 1990s and is now enjoying real mainstream recognition, starting from last year with the uber succesful"Despacito"  the music is a fusion of reggae, latin music and dancehall music with vocals include rapping and singing, typically in Spanish.

Associated Press calls it the Best Song of 2018, probably not so familar in English Speaking Jamaica but trust dis ya tune BIG. the song is  X ( Equis) by Nicky Jam and J Balvin. 1.4 B as in Billions views onYoutube, if you have any doubts on the Jamaican influence just watch the  dance moves , the wardrobe and  the look and feel of the video very similar to Sean Paul's "Im still in Love with You"and Drake's "Hotline Bling" .

 The tune is Maaaad Sick.
