More Dancehall Flavour in your Ear (RIP Craig Mack)

Whats up Mad peeps its TGIF Time to Get Funky Friday again and we found some more beats and bounce for your dancehall ears.

Some of you might know Lil Yacthy a US rapper and singer who is best known for hit song "Broccoli"  with DRAM. He calls his  his style "Bubblegum Trap."

Rolling Stone described his music as "catchy, intentionally dinky-sounding tunes packed with off-color boasts delivered in a proudly amateurish singsong."
Him kinda on a different level musically, what we don't get is why him call himself Lil Yacthy he obviously is a big ass man.

Anyway we find he is channeling his dancehall roots to  carry his music to the next level. Check this new song  "Worry No More" it has a nice pop/ dancehall vibe to it featuring Santigold and produced by 1/3 of Major Lazer, Diplo who is already a well established fan and producer of dancehall crossover.....MAAAAD mi tell unuh

So if you had any doubt about the Jamaican influence pree this other video shot on location at Frenchman's Cove and Somerset Falls in the beautiful parish of Portland, Jamaica and featuring new Dancehall inspired flavour of the month Stefflon Don and a cameo by the Unruly Boss Popcaan.....MAD

Watch out for this to Mash Up di Place - Major Lazer finds the Maddest lyrics

Dancehall foreign producer of the year, Major Lazer continues their influence and musical ingenuity and dear we say crossover dominance with dancehall and reggae with the release of their latest video,Watch out for this (Bumaye)

In a throw back video to the early days of dance hall in the 1990s it features Busy Signal and dancers reviving the colourful, loud and fashion forward images of that era.

Kudos to the references to Bruk up
House of Leo dances
Tatty dance move
World Dance
Modelling Dance
Bogle Dance
Wacky Dip Dance

Blond wigs (see Dancehall Queen Carlene)

and how many other things can you identify from back in those days

Respect Major Lazer ... we like the horn riff in this one is Bumaye... whatever that means

Our only comment is we wanted more of the riddim (it finished tooo soon) .........definitely a Maaaaad Moment

Snoop Lion, the next King of Reggae?

Well yes that what Snoop Lion's music is heading. We like many other people are looking forward to the debut next week March 15 of the movie "Reincarnated" the documentary on the transformation of Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion, reggae artist. We are sure the movie will do well based on Snoop's worldwide love and admiration.

However when we look at Snoop's latest video in support of the album we are still saying Snoop is still missing the reggae mark. The single called "Here comes the King" has a lot of scenes that raises doubt on the issue.

Snoop still singing and chanting in a pseudo Jamaican accent sounding like a bad Hollywood actor trying to catch the Jamaican accent.
Snoop  dressed in traditional rasta  fashion looking a little awkward
Snoop despite his rastafarian conversion having scantily clad women in the video (Fyah- Capelton voice)

Hot 97's Miss Info called this video part comical and part bizarre and we agree. We hope Snoop is not just playing a character. Will he still be Snoop Dogg sometimes and Snoop Lion sometimes..hmmmm.
The video is shot at the picturesque Trident Hotel in Portland, Jamaica

We hope that the album features some local producers like Don Corleone, Shane Brown or Gussie Clarke who we are sure can give Snoop some good direction.

Diplo and Major Lazer, the producers will add their own twist to the reggae/dancehall flavour, we spoke on Diplo's influence earlier Click on the link below:

Diplo's love affair with Jamaica continues

We suggest Snoop just drops the accent and buss out a free style on a bad dancehall beat. Snoop has maaad flow and if you have any doubts on the Snooooop Doggg just refresh your mind to this:

Diplo's love affair with Jamaica continues

Fresh on the heels of news that super Producer Diplo is going to  produce a reggae album for Snoop Dogg (oops I mean  Snoop Lion) comes the producer further dalliance with Dancehall Music and culture. Straight off his soon to be released album "Free the Universe" comes the official video for "Get Free" featuring Amber Coffman from the Dirty Projections, with visuals straight from the streets of Kingston.

Some of the spots included in the video are the Jamaican boxing television sensation "the Contender", the hidden gem of an attraction Cane River Falls, surfing at Bull Bay and of course action from the biggest dances in Kingston.

Cameos of Koshens, Beenie Man, Popcaan and others adds their own flavour to the videos

Kudos to Diplo for representing, the song is not Dancehall (maybe just the bass line follows a reggae progression) but the we can see where Diplo's head is at creatively and we  are impressed.

and as we like to say it is Maaad on point

Here is the Andy C's Dub step Remix which is bound to get the dance floor pumping.

Diplo - Dancehall Producer Imported or Ambassador of Dancehall music?

Hey Music fans you may have seen an article recently that rap icon Snoop Dog is recording a reggae album and the album is being produced by American DJ Diplo.

Who is Diplo and what is his connection with Dancehall Music?

Lets share some of his musical pedigree,Thomas Pentz better known by his stage name Diplo, is a Philadelphia-based American DJ, producer and songwriter. He also founded and manages record company Mad Decent, which we like as anything mad is close to our heart, the name even sounds Jamaican.

Diplo rise to noterity in dancehall  rose recently when he and  fellow producer Switch created a Jamaican dancehall project titled Major Lazer. Since then, Diplo has worked on production and mixtape projects with many other notable pop artists, such as BeyoncĂ© and Usher.
He is probably famous for making the  "Pon de Floor" featuring Vybz Kartel the rhythm which you will recognize as it was later sampled for Beyonce hit "Girls Run the World" but here is the original:

However Diplo's foray is a part of an increasing trend where dancehall producers are being imported to capture the Jamaican musical culture, some will complain and say what about Jamaican producers but others will say music is universal and is global to whoever appreciates and respect the genre. Well Diplo in recent years has made some waves in dancehall.

Lets hear from Diplo himself why he loves Dancehall so much, maaad,  my man

Diplo has also branched out  and is now capturing his musical journey in a new book , check out a preview complete with lots of features on Jamaica peep Strawberry Hill, the mad genius Lee "Scratch" Perry  and daggerring carried to literary new heights. Maaaad.
