Denroy Morgan the reggae artist who mastered the formula for cross-over success

Denroy Morgan, the  patriarch of Morgan Heritage has the distinction of being one of the first reggae artists to have a cross over hit in the 80s with hit song "I"ll Do Anything  for You".

For those of you are not so familiar with Denroy Morgan he is a a Jamaican reggae artist who migrated to the states in 1965  He found success in the U.S. in 1981 with the release of his I'll Do Anything for You as a R&B and Dance hit and paved the way for him to be the first reggae artist to be signed to RCA Records.

"I'll Do Anything For You" peaked at number Seven on the US dance charts and became a worldwide hit.

You hardly find any Rastafarian artist  doing cross over songs anymore and truly Denroy Morgan did  not have any successful  songs hits thereafter to speak of but oh what a hit this song was...truly a mad moment of musical inspiration.

Btw I actually have this 12 inch with the the instrumental and dub versions and they are just as classic.

Well the cross over genes continue in Denroy's youngest son, Laza Morgan whose summer hit with Mavado, "One by One" was such a  great song, smart chorus and clever song writing, However somehow it has not become the hit it should be. I think one of the problems may be the video it is so underwhelming for such a strong song.

See for yourself
