Reggae Emotions are Strong On this One

It is a joy and a pleasure when new artists finally buss who have been in the game  developing their musical craft and finally get to enjoy well deserved attention.

With a beautifully shot video featuring Folly Great House in Portland we find the "hot new artists" Yaksta ( Bush Lawd) and Nation Boss on with the brand new message music for their collaboration "Emotions". The video storyline and visuals pays homage and is almost like a sequel to Nation Boss' Humans video.

Great costuming, Superb cinematography, the colours the movement ohh and the song shaaat quality music and a quality video , we like to see how Jamaican production companies (in this case always creative RD studios) is stepping up the game and placing reggae on the world stage  even more where it madly deserves to be.

This is a Mad Emotional Moment in Music..........Mi fi tell unuhh  this one badd no lie.

Sean Paul Bilingual, Bet you didn't know!!

Whaddup Mad people

Its Funky Friday and back into the dancehall wi seh.

Sean Paul Jamaica's biggest dancehall artist expands his repertoire musically and linguistically. Sean spitting lyrics in Spanish, impressive. Not a song found on Jamaican airwaves but creating literally a fire overseas is "Contra La Pared" or en ingles"Against the Wall" an easy tempo mix of Reggaeton and Dancehall the influence of jamaican cuture is easy to see in the dancing and wah a gwan  (check out at the 2:00mn time  mark).  A first I have seen Sean Paul  bringing dancehall in a Spanish gwann mi General ....muy bueno or as we sey around here maaaad sumptin!

Shot on location in Utah's Lake Powell, nope not anywhere in South America, featuring dune buggies, dance crew and strangely enough cool winter gear although in the middle of the desert Lake Powell does get cold in the night.

Featuring J Balvin the Colombian Superstar who enjoyed massive global success in 2017 with "Mi Gente" they may have another hit on their hands already at 102 Million views and counting this chune a gwann good.

Can you take a Serious Message from Lil Dicky

Wha Gwann Mad People, its Feel Good Friday Again. We  mix it this week with a hip hop tune. Many of you may not know Lil Dicky. Lil Dicky because (Well You Know).

Aka David Burd he is a fairly well known underground rapper and comedian. He got his first big break with the release of the music video for "Ex-Boyfriend", which went viral with more than one million views on YouTube in 24 hours. He actually is a good rapper not a gimmcky clown but his deal is to play it off.

In more recent times he has become more main stream with the funny yet damn catchy single with Chris Brown "Freaky Friday"

But hold on he has carried his skills to another level. He last week released his latest project. We love the "Earth". A cutesy but definitely not folksy video (more closer to R than Lion King PG)  showcasing his rapping style, comedy pacing and of course a good message about climate change and global warming. Kinda long but it plays out more like a short movie and is very entertaining.  Maaaad..... we nahh lie this video shaaat

Hot Kup of Koffee

Manners and Respect to one and all, its Time for Get Fresh Friday (TGIF)

Some of you have already tuned into this bubbling star on what people call the New Reggae Roots Sound. Welcome Mikayla “Koffee” Simpson  a proud graduate of Ardene High School, which continues to bless us with a rich array of cultural and academic ambassadors (like Di Genius, Rvssian, and Alkaline to name a few)

Koffee, I cant believe how she captured this cool (I mean Hot Name) before anyone else. This rising superstar Koffee based on buzz of "Burning" and being nutured under the wings of other ragga soul stars Chronnixx and Protoje has recently signed to Columbia UK. At the tender age of 18 she has the whole Music world at her feet (about the same age Rhianna was signed with her debut single Pon Di Replay). We have HIGH hopes for Koffee, her insightful lyrics, down to earth styling and rapid fire delivery is reminiscent of the early 90s stars Papa San and Stitchie. Particulalry because of her UK label I expect her very shortly to be doing some BIG House and EDM mixes.

But for now she is keeping close to her roots, she bad we nah tell no lie she baaad or as we like to say she maaaad.

She just released this week her latest visuals for"Throne" which is a testament to her style .

Pree this:

This is her in the Studio for the 1st time just 2 years ago, times flies fast when hit u a hit.

Gospel and House a Truly Inspirational Song

Wahddup Mad peeps back in the place with music for your face.

Today lets go for some divine inspiration. Found this Mad Gem of Music which seamlessly blends a gospel chorus, giving praise and wortship with downright funky house music. The song is by Adelphi Music Factory called Javelin ( Calling Out Your Name). A new classic on the dance floor but still able to drive a glorifying tribute to the Saviour.

Adelphi Music Factory is a music collective out of the UK whose philosophy is The power of love will overcome the love of power.

The title of the song is based on the concept that the Factory, forges a ‘Javelin’; a gospel piano weapon filled with love. The sample is from the gospel classic It's Me Oh Lord by LaShun Pace.

We dare you to listen to this maaaad tune and not nod your head and tap your feet... go ahead turn it up and get down this a Massive Maaad Moment in Music memba we tell unhuu.

Maaad Bless!!!!

Dancehall in Japan ...it Nuh Normal!!!

Wha a Gwann Mad Music Peeps

Today we dive into the archive to give you a classic Mad Moment in Music. Recorded almost 9 years ago when Gully Creeper and Ova Di Wall were the hot dances looong before people were flairing. Elephant Man was di man with the dances like how Ding Dong control the dancing scene now

Welcome to the love affair Japan has with Dancehall Culture. Straight out of streets of Kingston to the clubs of Tokyo welcome to "Tokyo Reggae Girls", yes the reggae dancehall culture finds itself sometimes to the unlikeliest places but imitation is the highest form of flattery and nowhere is this truer than in Japan where either watching countless dancehall videos or even better  having visited Jamaica  for a few weeks to soak in the latest dances our disciples return to Japan to show off their talents.

Check out this feature on how popular reggae music has become in Tokyo. This is really maaaad as I would love to understand why of all the countries in the world that Japan has adopted Jamaican music and culture, I mean why not Poland or Australia.

Anyone know the history of reggae in Japan that could explain this?

Anyway you pree it, it must be the Maaaahhd power of the music. I like how the dance a shot at 3:00am like in Jamaica.

D.R is never short of talent their hottest artist right now Nicky Jam has the mega hit "X". You must have heard this jam, try and catch the dance. As you can hear it is a dancehall and reggae song, featuring a synth trumpet hook and elements of reggaeton, pop and Afrobeat.

Rumour has it that Will Smith, Nicky Jam and Diplo are part of the team for the FIFA World Cup Official song, yes you heard it here first SHELL SHELL SHELL.....MAAAD

Should have been Popcaan in this Video

You are probably bouncing to this happy pop tune "Should have been Me" by British Producer Naughty Boy featuring Kyla and Jamaica's own Popcaan.

This horn infused tune has Popcaan taking a leaf from Sean Paul's book and jumping on the collab train  and finding success particular in the British and European Market. Popcaan di Unruly Boss with jus a a few bars adds a winning flavour to a big chune.

The video for this one is very cinematic and well shot in Kampala, Uganada  but we a pree it  and can't understand how this was  green lighted. the video has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the song.

The song is all about love and relationships only relationship  we see is this is a new found passion for skateboarding.

Pretty video,  nice imagery but nothing to do with  the reality . Check Poppy's lyrics " Mi guess that a so di ting go , a brand new girl me a swing to ......" Wi nuh see how dat factor in the video

The song SHOT still but they could a fly down to Jamaica we could a give dem some nice Jamaican girls to feature up in di video

Next time link wi fas,  wi have ideas a flow like Dunns River.............Maaaad

The BADDEST dancehall track of the1990s

Maaaad , this tune is timeless. a great song with endless vibes, un-debatably the BIGGEST dancehall tune of the 1995.... Anything for you All Star remix

Everyone loves the chorus for this song featuring a sample of Everybody plays the fool, Anything for You featured a then unknown white Canadian DJ Snow. who was best known for his 1992 single "Informer", which reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

First the original

but the ALL Star Remix Laaawd have Mercy.....Maaaad mi fi tell you. I remember being in Cactus nightclub in its hey days 90s Friday after work jam and when this song played the energy level went up up up.....,it nuh normal.

Some mad interesting facts the song produced at Penthouse studios by the super talented Tony Kelly was recorded at the same time as the video shoot so what you are seeing are the actual takes used in the song. Everybody loves the Beenie and Buju verses but no one really gets to hear or knows Kulture Knox verse (a casualty of being too far down the track)

The song never hit Billboard but was a yard favourite reaching #1on the Jamaican charts  and became the top-selling single of 1995.

Where are they now
Buju's sentence was recently commuted by 2 months and Nadine Sutherland riding high after  a commanding performance on Shaggy & Friends showing she is still a force in reggae music today,  she just released  her latest single Inna Mi Blood a soulful conscious tribute produced by the Mad Professor at Ariwa records.

Beenie Man remains the King of the Dancehall still putting out perennial hits, Terror Fabolous off the scene for a minute but still has that distinct vocals and the Ole Ganga Lee Louie Culture has been missing from the recording world since the 90s.

Rhianna's Work Work Work - STR8 FIRE

Its finally here the visuals for Rhi Rhi "Work Work Work"or as she says it "Werk Werk Werk".If there was any doubt as to what genre this song was all questions are answered. In an ode to all things Jamaican this sultry dancehall inspired video does the job.... Waaaaaaay up .

Maaaad interesting she has made 2 versions of the video (running back to back). The first is very "JAMAICAN" , then for those of her fans who has never been exposed to such an experience there is a somewhat milder and more universal version still edgy as we expect from the badgyal Rhinana.

Couple of things to note

Sure Rhianna is going to get flak from her Bajan people but to her credit she represents Barbados in the video see if you spot it

She and Drake have great chemistry on screen very natural, like their actually having fun

In the second video is it me or her boobs exposed......wow

The video is directed by noted Canadian director  Little X  who is known to have brought maaaad creative  energy to dancehall many times before notably through breakthrough Sean Paul "Gimmi the Light".

Enjoy ( Explicit version)

Just in case you forgot this is not their first dancehall / rap fusion crossover.

  Remember

One of the Best Dancehall songs out of T. Dot - Numba 1

This is the best version of a John Holt tune EVER.

Time for some maaad history, the song "The Tide Is High" a 1967 song written by the late John Holt, originally performed by the Jamaican group The Paragons, of which John Holt was the lead singer.

The song gained international attention in 1980, when a version by the American band Blondie became a US/UK number one hit. The British girl group Atomic Kitten also had a number one hit with their version of the song in 2002, but for us the BADDEST and MADDEST versions of the song was the hit for Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall released in 2008.

Kardnial over the years is known as the top producer of reggae and dancehall music in Toronto, and has a rich and successful history of songs and association with top Jamaican acts.

This one is probably the best produced dancehall songs out of the T. Dot (after Snow's Informer) Kardinal and Keri Hilson have upgraded this song to a maaaad danceable banger. Produced by Supa Dups of Black Chiney fame.

The album version features Rih Rih but there are three other versions, the second is the original version, featuring Nicole Scherzinger. A third version features Rihanna and Nicole Scherzinger. The fourth version is the official single and features Keri Hilson. There is also a mash-up version which features Rihanna, Nicole Scherzinger and Keri Hilson. (different versions because of music politics)

Dis ya song that makes you nod ur head  uncontrollably which in case you didn't know is a good thing.......maaad infectious

Look out the video features the "To di world" dance made subsequently famous by Usain Bolt as his trademarked Lightning Bolt pose.

Maaaad  I love this song, everything works for this one

This singer has the reggae vibes baaaad

Whats up Mad Music peeps every time I hear this song I keep saying that song is a reggae pop song and no surprise its one of my favourite singers Ellie Goulding who has a maaad knack of finding  melodies that have a reggae influence, her latest single "On My Mind" is no exception , the drum pattern, its bass line and the twitchy guitar riff  especially in the first verse is maaaad infectious.

No bwoy cant tell mi she nar her producer dem neva pree a reggae song and come up with dat riddim. But seriously we have to say maaad respect as she continues to grace her lyrics and productions with a heavy reggae lint.

The single is from her upcoming third studio album Delirium and is the album's lead single just released on 17 September 2015.

 Check it out

If you don't believe me about the reggae influence check out her other hit song "Burn" Maaaad Music, dat tune is str8 fire

Lets not forget her current hit "Powerful" with our own Tarrus Riley, remember we predicted it was going to be a hit from waaaaay back in June.

 http://madmomentsinmusic.blogspot.com/2015/06/future-fire-aurrus-riley-is-powerful.html

One comment we think the video didn't do Tarrus Riley enough justice the man is a bonafide star but in the video wardrobe didnt make him have enough shine, most people (outside of reggae) wont remember his visuals, Dress the man up in a nice outfit let him shine, give the man his due...nuff said

Can you Hula Hoop?

Alright you all are now singing the Cheerleader song by newly minted Jamaican pop star OMI.  He has been around for a few years but has made his break through the remix of his hit tune "Cheerleader.

So get ready for the next chapter in his success, his latest single has pop appeal and will do well check out the video for " Hula..Hula Hoop". What we like about the video is that he is still representing Jamaica.  although you will notice this video has a more "Caribbean flavour" with  carnival and girls of different nationalities.

Love the choreography simple dance move repeated throughout on the chorus, easy for the girls to catch and I guarantee if you go to the club they will be doing that move.

Production secret,y'all notice its the same house, scene one is facing the bay, scene 2 outside of the house, scene 3 inside the house.... cant knock the hustle tho do your thing OMI you video shaaaaat

Strangely enough not one Hula Hoop in the video ............thats maaaaad

This is LOVEly, Bob Marley lights up romance for this elderly couple

Interesting how music inspires various art forms, this one is indeed a mad moment in music, Bob Marley's "This is Love" as you probably have never seen it before. Truly romantic for all you soft-hearted souls and if you appreciate dance this piece is one technically sharp body of choreography, any way you interpret this clip it is inspiring and touching. I'm sure we all hope we can move like this when we get older.

A few mad facts for ya, This is Love was released on his 1978 album Kaya. The song became one of the best known Marley songs and was part of the Legend compilation. It peaked at number 1 in the UK charts upon its release in 1978.

This song has Jamaica stamped all over it

If you haven't heard this song check out this pop reggae fusion song "Locked Away" by R City  featuring Adam Levine. R.City or Rock City a reggae pop duo out of US Virgin Islands, comprising  of brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas.  They have found Adam to sing the hook on this insanely mad romantic pop tune. The video is noteworthy for its ode to Jamaican music.

For starters it features Adam Levine of Maroon 5 a self-professed lover of reggae music. This song should be the duet he does with Tessane Chin. With her links with Adam and her music stylings I don't understand why this hasn't happened yet, note to Tessane make the link, this is the type of chune you need to cross over with.

Secondly the video features the stunning Chantel Davis, ex Miss Jamaica finalist and model based out of Florida check her out on instagram  @chantel.davis

Plus the inescapable drum pattern and the DJ verse, the club scene speaks for itself ....maaaaad

You may also it also features the sample of the melody from the popular Captain & Tennille hit "Do That To Me One More Time".

The song is currently  number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100, along with OMI break out hit single Cheerleader it has been a good year so far for Caribbean infused music.

 R. City's debut album "What Dreams Are Made Of", available October 9th.maaaad

Sim Simma still a hit..20 years strong

Sim Simma also known as Who am I the girls dem sugar, a cross over hit of the late nineties that became this timeless hit world wide continues its influence on the music world. Almost 20 years old, released in 1997 it adds fruit to the adage good music has no age. Probably known more by the Bennie Man title , the true name of the riddim is the Playground riddim  produced by multi talented producer/musician Jeremy Harding for his 2 Hard Record label, during its early years it  also spawned hits for a then emerging Sean Paul ( Infiltrate) and Mr. Vegas ( Nike Air )

Those of you who remember it was somewhat controversial at the time  because of the verse . Pass me the keys to the trucks ( a copy of Missy Elliot's the Rain/ Beep Beep  hot tune at the time)  how could I make love to a fella ....in a rush which was interpreted as Bennie Man suggesting making love to a fella in a rush........ Obviously not Bennie Man's intention but you know people always looking for excitement

Pree the original

But  true to the original its  thick bass line that made it the perennial hit in 2015 it has been  used for a new generation...maaaaad

Firstly you might have picked it up in this USVI maad hot jam from Rock City " I'm That Nigga" NSFW

Then more recently in the UK rappers Krept & Konan freak of the week ft. Jeremih

The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number seven, making it the duo's first top 10 single. Plus there is a you tube remix of the same chune featuring Popcaan + Beenie Man.

Maaaaaaaaaaad props to Jeremy the tune still a gwaaan  large

Romantic Techno you got to love it !!

Yes there is  sub genre of music called  Romantic Techno. Hard at first to understand how something going at 180 BPM ( beats per minute) could be romantic but trust me  its niiiice. Featuring artist DJ Kolsch the video is a homage to the culture smorgasbord city of Barcelona. I have had the wondrous chance of visiting the city and it is truly memorable from the artistic tributes to Gaudi to the La Sagrada Famlia to Camp Nou to Las Ramblas to the beaches to the tapas.... this is a city with character, one of my favourite in Europe, the hills that surround the city reminiscent of Kingston,  Jamaica

Back to the music, set to time lapse of cityscape features of Barcelona the haunting vocals compliment the keys and the melodic harmony are soothing as well as erotic ;-)

This is what I call a mad romantic moment in music....maaad

The World's Greatest Mascot- Benny the Bull of the CHIcago Bulls

Probably just as popular in Chicago as Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Derek Rose, and even more funnier we wager that there has never been much better entertainment value at the Chicago Bulls games. than Benny the Bull, considered the best mascot in the NBA and probably in the world by many he is the most engaging, exciting and entertaining mascot ever. He dances, does aerial stunts, gymnastic,  got basketball skills, cracks jokes, slam dunks and has a mean over the shoulder no look shot

He has maaaad  energy, comedy and athleticism

Over to you Benny

Clean up on aisle 10 -20, maaan thats a lot of popcorn.

So who is the man behind the furry red mask it is Barry Anderson, considered the best in his game he commands a six figure salary.

As you see he performs trampoline dunks beside his team "Benny and the Elevators". He has his own Mascot coach. He makes numerous public appearances around the Chicago area and usually travels around in his van, 'Benny's Bull Ride' and is almost always with his assistant, Todd Abbott.

If you don't think it could get any funnier here is some more of Benny from last year just as maaaad exciting.

Hottest dance in Jamaica right now Aji Bounce

Based on the maaad feedback we have got on our last post we decided to keep it on the dancing tip. Memba we told ya the hottest dance in the street right now is the Aji Bounce.  Popularized in this track by Bling Dawg aka Bawse Dawg. the song  is destined to run di summer. The video is not even out yet but this behind the scenes videos looks like it would be more fun than the actual video itself.

With cameos by Keiva the Diva and dancehall omnipresence Lugu Lugu  this dance and the beat shaaaaat.

The dance is inspired by the new dancer  Aji Happanz to do the dance just go on your toes, and bounce left to right quickly to the beat and mellow out and add hand movements as inspired. The dance is easy to catch and everyone is doing it even Sean Paul has mastered this new dance (Google it- but it goes by different names try Haggie Bounce Sean Paul)

Dance hall massive catch di Aji Bounce.....maaaaad

the final video just as maaaad
